The project is a continuation of the Civil Society Organizations Sustainability Index (CSOSI) that measures the sustainability of civil society organizations (CSOs). The CSOSI was developed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by FHI 360 and the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL) in 73 countries.
After 2023, following the project’s completion at the international level, the Ukrainian Center for Independent Political Research, with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation, decided to continue assessing the strength and overall viability of CSOs in Ukraine, since the CSOSI is important for tracking progress and identifying challenges in the development of the country’s civil society sector. The CSOSI provides donor and international organizations, government officials, civil society organizations, and the academic community with critical information.
The Civil Society Organizations Sustainability Index covers the following seven dimensions that are critical to sectoral sustainability:
1. legal environment,
2. organizational capacity,
3. financial viability,
4. advocacy,
5. service provision,
6. sectoral infrastructure,
7. public image.
